A Short Report from Double Ultra Triathlon in Bad Radkersburg

The race started quite well, with me finishing the swim leg (152 laps in the 50m swimming pool) as a second, but it went only downhill from there. During the bike leg I began to have my usual knee issues that haunt me whenever I cycle more than 150 km and started popping painkillers already at 170th km. However I managed to take 2 or 3 cold showers as a preventive measure for managing my temperature, because I usually blow up in such heat. When the temperature dropped at night, I actually really started enjoying the ride and hammered it - (paid the price later tho). I was really looking forward to the run, as it is usually my strongest leg, but after 40ish km, it was obvious that it's not gonna be a pleasant day. I was really questioning the stupidity of me signing up for this race. I lied on the wet grass and benches alongside the track, and did not want to continue, because I thought that I could do some long term damage to my knee. Surprisingly, after abusing some other supporters for coke and something for the stomach, they managed to get me back to the right spirit and after walking a few laps I could start running again. From then on, I really didn't care about the results and genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere of the race. Every lap, people high-fived us and after seeing me lying there, their support even intensified. Honestly, one of the nicest experiences ever, especially because I did not have my own support, but was welcome everywhere. In the end I finished 7th with 27 hours 15 mins, but whatever - made some friends and have great memories. Distances: 7.6 km swim, 360 bike, 84 run - all flat PS: there were also folks doing triple
